We. Love. Vegetables! And we want all the kids in the land to enjoy them, too. There’s some ground to make up... Per the 2020-2025 USDA Dietary Guidelines, almost 90 percent of the U.S. population does not meet the daily recommendation for vegetables. A well-rounded diet can and should start from the start. Breaking it down, children under age two should be getting ¾ to 1 cup of vegetables per day. And children 2-8 years old should be getting 1 to 2 ½ cups per day. Sprout Organics is here to help!

Why we say, “Eat the Rainbow!”

We need a variety of fruits and vegetables to provide the many nutrients our bodies need to function and grow healthily. Within the broad (and tasty!) category of “vegetables” it can be broken down into 5 basic categories: dark-green; red and orange; beans, peas, and lentils; starchy vegetables; and “other” (things that don’t fit into the previous categories, like avocado and zucchini).

Doing your best to incorporate vegetables of different colors and textures into meals and snack time is a great way to make sure your little ones are getting the micronutrients (think vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients) that they need. This is why we say, “eat the rainbow!”
