“Eat the Rainbow!” is Sprout Organics’ ongoing blog series dedicated to reminding parents of the importance of feeding their kids a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables daily. Why? Because feeding them fruits and veggies of different colors every day is the simplest way to make sure they get the full range of nutrients their growing bodies need. Keep watching this space for more fruit and veggie spotlights and tips on how to get your li’l sprout to eat (and love!) their fruits and veggies.

Was your baby’s first solid food the banana?

Probably! Easy to chew and relatively mild in flavor, it’s a safe choice for baby’s first experience with solid foods. Bananas are good for a whole BUNCH of other reasons (see what we did there?).

Bananas contain essential nutrients that support a wide variety of bodily functions—helping promote a healthy digestive system, calm upset tummies, support heart health, and so much more.

It’s bananas what bananas can do!

Bananas contain fiber, vitamin B6, potassium, and antioxidants like vitamin C. A good daily intake of fiber helps what we eat move through our digestive system. The average medium banana packs in about 3g of fiber. Bananas are also part of the simple BRAT diet, which is an acronym for Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast. This diet is recommended by pediatricians for kids who have nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

Potassium is another star of the banana’s makeup. Potassium helps support blood pressure and helps our muscles contract. An essential nutrient for bodily function and needed by *all* of our body’s tissues, potassium is an electrolyte which helps regulate fluid levels, specifically inside the cell (whereas sodium helps regulate fluids outside of cells).

Sprout 💛 bananas

At Sprout, we’ve made it our mission to help kids eat more fruits and veggies. Because, well…the science is pretty clear: The healthier your baby eats now, the better the chances they’ll keep eating healthy their whole life and grow to reach their full potential.

On top of all their health benefits, organic bananas add a natural sweet flavor to our recipes. That means we don’t use added sugar or sugar substitutes like some of the other treats and snacks on shelves.

Need some easy snacks for when you’re on-the-go? Try our new PB&Yayz Peanut Butter & Banana Snack-Sized Sandwiches! Does your kiddo love CoComelon? Then they’ll love these Sprout CoComelon Banana Snack Bars with plant protein included.
